Medical Centre, 5 Moor Road, Leeds LS10 2JJ
The surgery is open every weekday 8.30am until 6.00pm, and until 12 noon on Saturday. The centre is closed on Sundays. THE PRACTICE TEAM The practice was started by a Dr Priestley sometime in 1890. He remained in the practice for about fifteen years and was succeeded by Dr Matheson who only practised for two years before he died of pneumonia. His place was taken by Dr William Warnock who had been an assistant to a General Practitioner in Beeston. Dr Warnock joined the practice in 1908. The practice was then located at Arthington House, 9 Arthington Avenue, Leeds 10. Dr W. Warnock was joined by his nephew, Dr Archibold Warnock in 1946, initially as an assistant and he then became a partner in 1948. When Dr Archie, as he was popularly called, joined the practice, it cost 3 shillings for a consultation and 5 shillings for a domiciliary consultation (ie home visit). In 1952 Dr Archie's wife Helen joined the practice and at the same time started a branch surgery in Orion Crescent which was closed in 1955. In 1971, after Dr W. Warnock retired Dr Archibold and Dr Helen Warnock took over the practice of Dr Donnelly and they had a branch surgery at 278 Dewsbury Road next to the fire station. They took on Dr Peter Smith as a partner and in 1978 when Dr Peter Smith left to start a practice in Shelf near Halifax, the surgery at Dewsbury Road was closed. In 1981 Dr Menon joined the practice, having moved from a large practice in Halifax. Dr Helen Warnock retired in August 1981 and Dr W. Warnock retired in January 1983. Dr Vivian Roberts joined the practice to replace Dr Warnock until 1985, when she moved to Aylesbury where her husband was appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon. Dr Susan Lyons then joined the practice and stayed until March 1990. In September 1991 Dr Alison House joined the practice followed by Dr Santha Menon in August 1992. In September 1990 the
practice moved from Arthington House to the present address at Moor Road. Copyright © 2000-2004 Oldroyd Publishing Group Limited. All rights reserved. |
